'Internet Doomsday' is Next Monday

July 6, 2012

Be prepared this coming Monday July 9th because thousands of computer users infected with an undetected virus thus far, will loose their access to the internet. This virus is commonly known as the DNSChanger, because the virus redirects users to fake sites often leading to other internet problems.
Months ago, international hackers created a malicious software (malware) that infected approximately 4 million internet users. The hackers “took advantage of vulnerabilities in the Microsoft Windows operating system to install malicious software on the victims’ computers. This turned off antivirus updates and changed the way the computers reconcile website addresses behind the scenes on the Internet's domain name system” (The Huffington Post). Before the hackers were able to fully control the infected computers, they were arrested and the FBI set up a special safety net to prevent internet disruptions for those infected. The safety net has been in place about 8 months now and the FBI feels that has been enough time to spread the news and for infected users to detect the problem. The safety net is being shut down on July 9, 2012 and those still infected will face internet connection problems.

June 11, 2012

This month TCG Network Services is a proud sponsor of the 9th Annual Tour-de-Natick bicycle tour. This event has been an annual Father’s Day celebration for the MetroWest area. This marks TCG’s 5th year participating in the ride, not just as a sponsor. “What could be better than spending Father’s Day morning with our boys,” Frank said. Long term friend and Partner John added, “It’s a great day when we get together. Our boys look forward to this as it has become a tradition for both our families.” Frank’s youngest, Steven did his first ride on his bike at 5 years old and made the 6 mile trek with Dad just a bike length behind at every turn.

A Busy Beginning

March 14, 2012

As the end of the first quarter of 2012 approaches, life at TCG is busy! The New Year has brought a steady increase in the number of virtualization solutions we have implemented. However, considering the simplicity of virtualization and its numerous benefits, our experts are not really that surprised about this increase in business. As one of our senior engineers explains, “Since these solutions run multiple computers on a single server, companies save time and money by consolidating their IT infrastructure and increasing efficiency throughout their network.” Equally important is the backup and disaster recovery capability of virtualization. If an entire server fails, a virtual system takes over in minutes to recover your data and minimize downtime.
We have also noticed increased interest in cloud computing. While these services have existed for over a decade, they have been getting much more attention of late due to the hype around the re-branded “cloud” concept. TCG has remained on the cutting edge of technology since 1987, so our experts understand the evolution of cloud computing and have the knowledge to educate our clients on how these solutions can take their business to the next level. Private, public, and hybrid cloud computing each offer their own advantages. Our experienced professionals analyze the companies we service in order to leverage the benefits from these three options and develop a customized cloud computing solution specific to their needs.
